Here are WinImage 3.0 images of the Win3.11 recovery disks for the HP Omnibook 4000. The WinImage shareware utility is in this same folder for convenience. WinImage is a Win95/98/NT application and will not run under Win3.11. The disks are numbered in the order that they should be applied. Below are the details of the disks. Recovery disk 1-3 are a set. "HP BU Recovery Set, Omnibook model 4000C", MS-DOS 6.2 The first disk is a boot disk. Recovery disk 4 is the "Utilities supplemental disk" Recovery Disk 5-8 are labeled "Recovery Disk Set" and are a set. Disk 8 is the BIOS update disk, which you might not need to apply. You certainly won't need to ever apply it more than once. Recovey Disks 9-16 are labeled "Windows for Workgroups 3.11" and are a set. Recovery disk 12 had two errors while being read. I told it to retry many times and I believe I managed to get a usable disk image. If you have problems, I believe that the file that was involved was PRINTMAN.EXE. It might be possible to get a copy of the generic PRINTMAN.EXE from some other machine running Win3.11 or from an old OEM 3.11 install CD for an old Gateway 2000 or Dell computer as well. The OB4k-Win95boot disk is exactly what it says and is intended to be used for subsequent upgrades to Win95. Win98/98SE will not install on the OB4000. The OB4k-dock disk is the utilities disk for the OB4000 docking station under Win3.11. As best as I can tell, you should be able to use any generic copy of Windows 3.11 for an OB4000 install. Once generic Win3.11 is installed, boot from the "companion" floppy and let it update the system with the OB4000-specific changes and tools in order to get the machine fully set up under Win3.11 and ready to put to work. Personally, Win95B (a.k.a. OSR2) with FAT32 works great on the OB4000 and that is what I have on mine. Win98/98SE is not compatible with the OB4000's hard drive controller and cannot be installed on the OB4000. Bummer.
