HP OMNIBOOK 300 AND 425 - MAXIMIZING DOS CONVENTIONAL MEMORY BY

REMOVING UNUSED DRIVERS

  ISSUE:HP OmniBook 300 and HP OmniBook 425 - maximizing DOS

              conventional memory by removing unused drivers.

  SOLUTION:The default CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT files on the HP

              OmniBook 300 and HP OmniBook 425 provide approximately

              436 KB and 441 KB of free DOS conventional memory,

              respectively. The following steps explain how to

              increase DOS conventional memory to approximately 480

              KB for the HP OmniBook 300 and 474 KB for the HP

              OmniBook 425.

              1. Edit the CONFIG.SYS file using Notepad in Windows.

              2. Add the following line to the CONFIG.SYS file after:

                    DEVICE=D:\WINDOWS\HIMEM.SYS /MACHINE:2

                    DOS=HIGH

              3. Find the following line and insert REM in front of

                 it. (The OBCIC program is required for plug-in

                 PCMCIA modem cards.)

                    INSTALL=D:\OMNIBOOK\OBCIC.EXE /GEN 1

              4. Save the file.

              5. Open the AUTOEXEC.BAT file.

              6. Find the following line and insert REM in front of

                 it. (The SHARE program is required by some

                 applications such as Microsoft Mail.)

                    D:\SHARE

              7. Save the file and exit Notepad.

              8. Exit Windows and reboot the HP OmniBook 300 or 425.

              The HP OmniBook 300 will now have approximately 480 KB

              of free DOS conventional memory while the HP OmniBook

              425 will have approximately 474 KB free.

          NOTE:To achieve this, neither Windows nor

                    Laplink Remote can be running on the HP

                    OmniBook.
